• If access to Machu Picchu is through the Inca Trail, the ticket only includes the visit to the Inca citadel (Llaqta).

• For all train services to and/or from Machu Picchu, passengers are allowed to carry only one piece of hand luggage (backpack, handbag, or briefcase) weighing less than 11 pounds or 5 kilograms. Any other luggage that does not meet these requirements cannot be transported to Machu Picchu and should be left at the hotel for transfer to your next stop.

Day 1

Depart Canada

Overnight flight to Lima International Airport. 

Day 2

Welcome to Lima

Upon arrival at Jorge Chávez International Airport, you will need to clear customs and immigration. Afterward, collect your luggage and proceed to the exit where a local representative will be waiting, holding a sign with your name. They will assist you with your hotel transfer for check-in and to freshen up before beginning your first adventure.

This afternoon, enjoy a thoughtfully planned half-day city tour. Afterward, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax or explore at your leisure.

    Delve into the historical essence of Lima, preserved in its UNESCO-listed historic center. Step back into the colonial era as you explore streets and plazas lined with landmarks like the Government Palace, the Cathedral, and the Archbishop’s Palace. Visit the World Heritage Site of the Convent of Santo Domingo, home to the relics of Peru’s most revered saints: Santa Rosa de Lima, San Martín de Porres, and San Juan Macías. The tour continues at the renowned Rafael Larco Herrera Museum, showcasing nearly 45,000 pre-Hispanic artifacts, with highlights from the Mochica culture. Notable for its visitable storage rooms and virtual access, the museum captivates with exquisite jewelry, textiles, and its famous gallery dedicated to fertility-themed ceramics.

Lima

After an early breakfast, meet your dedicated tour guide in the hotel lobby and embark on the delightful Peruvian Gastronomic Classics tour in Barranco. Prepare to indulge your taste buds with up to 15 unique flavours.

After, you’ll be transferred to your hotel, with the rest of the day free to relax or explore at your own pace.

    Enjoy the best Peruvian cuisine in one of Lima’s most iconic districts. Led by local experts, you’ll walk around the bohemian streets of Barranco looking for 15 culinary experiences to pamper your taste buds. Ceviche, coffee, pisco drinks, and even chocolates will all be encountered as you learn the history and culture behind each ingredient and dish.

Day 4

Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley

Start your day bright and early with a light breakfast. After the checking out formalities are completed, meet your local representative, who will assist with your transfer to Jorge Chávez International Airport for your flight to Cusco, the Archaeological Capital of the Americas!

 

Upon arrival to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, collect your luggage and proceed to the exit where a local representative will welcome you with an Air Canada Vacations sign bearing your name on it. They will escort you to your hotel transfer to the Sacred Valley

Upon arrival, check-in and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Recommendations: To help your body acclimate to the altitude, we recommend following a light and easily digestible diet on your first day. Avoiding meat, fried foods, and heavy meals can significantly reduce the risk of altitude sickness. As a helpful tip, don’t forget to enjoy the complimentary hot infusions available 24/7 at the hotel reception, a soothing way to stay hydrated and ease the effects of altitude.

Day 5

Sacred Valley

After an early breakfast, set off on a full-day adventure with the Essence of the Sacred Valley tour, a journey into the heart of one of Peru’s most breathtaking and culturally rich regions.

Afterwards, you will be taken to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

    Begin in Chinchero, where communities still follow the Inca ayllu system and proudly wear traditional clothing. Visit the Parwa Cultural Center to learn about natural dyes, traditional weaving techniques, and watch artisans at work, with the chance to purchase handmade pieces. A short walk takes us past the Nuestra Señora de Monserrat Church to the archaeological complex, once an Inca agricultural and livestock center with terraces and aqueducts. Continue to Moray, a fascinating archaeological site where concentric terraces created varied microclimates for crop cultivation. Enjoy a typical lunch in the valley, followed by a visit to Ollantaytambo, a former Inca military, religious, and agricultural hub. Set on a mountainside, it offers stunning views and a glimpse into Inca urban planning, preserved in its stone streets, market, and vibrant Andean spirit.

Day 6

Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes

After an early breakfast and check-out, get ready to embark on the unforgettable highlight of your journey, a full-day, 10-hour* adventure to the legendary Machu Picchu**!

Please note:

*Tour duration may be subject to change due to local ground conditions.

** Your journey to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, will be aboard the Voyager or Expedition train. Please note that train policies allow each passenger to carry only one small backpack weighing up to 5 kg (11lbs) during the stay at Machu Picchu. We recommend packing light and bringing just the essentials. Items such as sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and mosquito repellent will help ensure your comfort throughout the excursion. The rest of your luggage will be transferred from your hotel in Sacred Valley to Cusco.

After an exciting and memorable day, you’ll be comfortably transferred back to Aguas Calientes, where the evening is yours to unwind and enjoy at your own pace.

    The adventure begins aboard the train to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, a picturesque town at the foot of the emblematic Inca citadel. During the train ride, enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings, with impressive views of majestic mountains, the Vilcanota River and small towns of the Peruvian Andes. After a short bus ride from Aguas Calientes you’ll reach one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. From there, explore the ancient ruins to learn about the history of this mystical and impressive place. Surrounded by incomparable landscapes, there will be no shortage of spectacular photo opportunities! Once recharged with the magical energy of Machu Picchu, make your return to Aguas Calientes where you will have free time to have lunch and explore the streets a bit before boarding your return train.

Aguas Calientes – Cusco

Spend a peaceful morning in Aguas Calientes, where time seems to slow down beneath the misty peaks of the Andes. Cradled by lush mountains and the gentle flow of the  River, this charming village invites you to soak in its tranquil atmosphere and Andean spirit. Those looking to enrich the experience may choose an optional tour, either returning to Machu Picchu ($) or exploring Aguas Calientes, adding a deeper layer of discovery to their time in this magical setting.

After completing check-out, you will be transferred to Cusco, The Archaeological Capital of the Americas!

Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Cusco

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and a relaxing morning before embarking on this afternoon’s adventure. A thoughtfully curated half-day city tour awaits, offering the perfect introduction to the destination. After the tour, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel, with the remainder of the day free to unwind or explore at your own pace.

    This charming half-day tour of Cusco combines history, living culture, and art. Discover how Andean and Spanish traditions from the past and present coexist and harmonize in the Imperial City. Our visit begins at San Pedro Market, Cusco’s oldest, designed in 1925 by Gustave Eiffel and still bustling with local vendors. We’ll then explore the Koricancha temple, once the Inca center of sun worship, later transformed into the Santo Domingo convent, with its baroque façade rising over solid Inca walls—an emblem of cultural fusion. Next, we’ll ascend to Sacsayhuaman, a monumental Inca fortress known for its massive carved stone walls, and continue to Kenko, a ceremonial site dedicated to celestial worship. Finally, we’ll visit the Cathedral, built atop the palace of Inca Huiracocha, home to a rich collection of Spanish-era goldwork and paintings from the Cusco School of Art.

Cusco

Let the energy of this ancient city surround you as you savour its unique rhythm, a harmonious blend of tradition and modern life. Whether you're seeking stillness or simply embracing the charm of your surroundings, today is yours to unwind, recharge, and fully immerse yourself in the spirit of the Imperial City. For those looking to explore further, an optional tour is available at an additional cost and can be booked locally.

Day 10

Cusco - Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata National Reserve

After breakfast, your local representative will meet you in the hotel lobby and assist with your transfer to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado, the Gateway to the Southern Peruvian Amazon.

 

Upon arrival at Padre Aldamiz International Airport, you will collect your luggage and proceed to the exit, where a local representative will be waiting to assist you with your transfer to Tambopata pier. From there, enjoy a scenic 25-minute* boat ride along the Madre de Dios River to your lodge.

*Note: Travel time may vary depending on local conditions.

Upon arrival, proceed to check-in and get ready for this afternoon’s introductory tour in lodge surroundings.

    Explore the jungle on foot with a knowledgeable tour guide, beginning at the Eco Center. Walk along the trails of Hacienda Concepción to discover the diverse ecosystems of the Amazon basin. Nestled near the Tambopata National Reserve and established on a former cocoa and rubber plantation, the lodge’s grounds feature both primary and secondary forests, home to exotic wildlife and tropical plants. At sunset, embark on the Night River boat ride, where you’ll witness the jungle’s enchanting transformation as daytime animals give way to nocturnal species. Keep an eye out for caimans resting along the riverbanks and admire the stunning constellations of the southern hemisphere.

Day 11

Puerto Maldonado

After an early breakfast, immerse yourself in a series of captivating natural excursions thoughtfully crafted to showcase the wonders of the lodge’s stunning grounds throughout the day. In case you’d prefer to rest, you can book a treatment at the Nua Spa ($) immersed in the rainforest.

    Begin your day with a visit to Lake Sandoval, a shimmering gem in the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve. Glide through its tranquil channels in a carved wooden canoe, surrounded by palm-lined shores and home to river otters, howler monkeys, macaws, anacondas, turtles, black caimans, and a variety of birdlife. Return to the lodge for lunch.

    In the afternoon, ascend the thrilling Inkaterra Canopy Walkway—a 344-metre (network of hanging bridges, eight platforms, and two panoramic towers. From up to 38 metres high, you’ll take in breathtaking views of the rainforest and watch for toucans, monkeys, and the elusive three-toed sloth.

    After nightfall, explore the jungle under moonlight on the Hidden Jungle excursion. With flashlights in hand and your Explorer Guide by your side, discover the sounds, sights, and secrets of the nocturnal Amazon as wildlife stirs in the shadows.

Day 12

Puerto Maldonado – Lima

After a leisurely breakfast and check-out, your local representative will assist you with your transfer to the pier, where a scenic 25-minute boat ride will take you to Padre Aldamiz International Airport in Puerto Maldonado for your flight to Lima.

Upon arrival at Jorge Chávez International Airport, collect your luggage and proceed to the exit. A local representative holding an Air Canada Vacations sign will welcome you and escort you to the airport’s hotel shuttle for check-in.

Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 13

Lima – Canada

After breakfast and check-out, the airport’s hotel shuttle will transfer you to Jorge Chávez International Airport for your return flight back to Canada.
